How Trick or Treat Hours Picks Streets (and Why We Never Show Houses)
Trick or Treat Hours lists streets, not houses. A public map of individual homes tells anyone exactly where kids will gather and when a family is out, and nobody can check who is behind each door. Street-level picks give families the same answer, where to go, without that risk.
Two sources, checked
A street is listed only when at least two independent sources name it: local news, city records, parent groups or long-running Reddit threads. Our import script opens every source page to confirm it names the street, skips real-estate and marketing blogs, and ignores sources older than 2018.
Neighbors add to it
Homeowners can pledge their street (we only ever show a count), families can thank a street or flag a safety issue, and tips are checked before they appear: no house numbers, no names, no kids' details.
Halloween night is the final check
From 3 PM to midnight on Oct 31, families report candy, full-size bars, teal pumpkins and crowds street by street. A count shows once reports come from two different internet connections (three for “out of candy” and “too crowded”).
