Trick-or-Treat Hours 2026: When to Go on Saturday, Oct 31
Halloween 2026 falls on Saturday, October 31, so there's no school night to plan around. Daylight saving time ends the next morning (Sunday, Nov 1), so evening light on Halloween is the same as the rest of the week.
When does trick-or-treating start?
Most neighborhoods run from about dusk until 8:30 PM. Many shopping streets hand out candy earlier, from around 3 or 4 PM, which suits little kids. Each city page on Trick or Treat Hours shows the local sunset time and the hours locals report for each street.
Sunset on Oct 31, 2026
Around 5:53 PM in New York and 6:14 PM in Oakland (timeanddate.com). Heading out 30 minutes before sunset gives you daylight for the busiest crossings and shorter lines on popular blocks.
Go early, leave early
Popular streets often run out of candy by 7:30 PM. Start with the shops, then walk a short loop of residential streets. Every city page has a suggested walking loop, and you can build your own route from the streets you pick.
Official hours for your town
Many towns in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and West Virginia set official trick-or-treat hours, and some move them off Halloween night. Our trick-or-treat hours page lists each town's 2026 time with a link to the announcement.
